What you need to know

The maximum weight of a single bag carried in the hold of the aircraft on a RwandAir flight may not exceed 40 kg in Economy and 50 kg in Business.

Medicines, money, important documents, perishable or fragile products or other valuables should be carried inside carry-on baggage and should not be packed in baggage that goes into the hold. Passengers are responsible of storing and transporting their own medicine during the whole flight. It is also better to transport electronic equipment in your carry-on baggage. For big musical instruments, such as cellos, space in the cabin has to be reserved in advance via RwandAir or your travel agent.

Attach to the inside of each piece of baggage a name tag bearing your name and the full address at your destination, as well as another name tag on the outside of each bag bearing your name, the name of your hotel at your destination and the name of the city. On the return journey, write your home address on the name tags.

Remove all old labels from your baggage, otherwise they may lead to your baggage being delayed.Do not pack into your bags any article or package obtained from anyone else, if you are at all uncertain about its contents.

For safety reasons, carry-on baggage may not contain any items that can pose a security risk, such as knives, scissors, corkscrews, pins, tweezers, golf clubs, lighters or skates. See also Dangerous materials.

Check that your baggage is properly closed. It is not recommended anymore, that you lock your bags, since the officials might need to open them after security screening, if there is any suspicion that they might contain forbidden articles or materials. A baggage strap is recommended to prevent the suitcase from opening. An insurance is also recommended to cover any possible damage caused to the baggage during handling.

Check that long straps or handles do not hang loose, enabling them to get caught in the baggage sorting equipment. If your baggage has two carrying handles, it is a good idea to tie them together for the same reason.

The primary task of baggage is to protect its contents from damage. Baggage processing at the airport involves rapid physical handling, which causes normal wear and tear. RwandAir is not responsible for minor damage to checked baggage which does not render the baggage unusable.

The airline's responsibility for damage that happens to checked baggage is internationally limited, if the appropriate excess value payments have not been paid in advance. It is to the passenger's benefit to ensure that all articles are insured to their full value. The identification of the passenger is checked at the check-in counter and at the gate - both when flying on international and on domestic flights.
