Dear Esteemed Customers,
This statement aims at updating all our customers on the developments in Dubai, affecting our flights into and out of Dubai International Airport (DIA) where we operate daily flights.
On the evening of 03rd August, 2016 we received communication that Dubai International Airport was open for landing and therefore we departed Kigali International Airport on time. However, during the early morning hours on the 04th of August, 2016 as our pilots prepared for descent, we were alerted that we could not land in Dubai International Airport, and diverted to Muscat in Oman.
As soon as our teams on the ground learnt of this disruption, they acted to facilitate our customers in ensuring that they reached their final destinations despite the disruptions that affected all arrival and departures at DIA. They engaged the air navigation authorities for an alternative airport to land and a solution was found to fly back from Muscat and into Al Maktoum International Airport, that is located at Dubai World Central (DWC) in Jebel Ali, 70km from DIA. Our teams on the ground worked tirelessly to update and facilitate the over one hundred and twenty (120) passengers who had been at DIA to DWC. Although we did manage to eventually depart from DWC, we would like to sincerely apologize to all our customers for the inconvenience and delay, which were caused due to circumstances beyond our control.
There were a number of customers who were either coming from various cities to connect our flights in Dubai, or coming from Kigali into Dubai on our flights to connect on other carriers who were also affected by this disruption. For these customers, we coordinated with immigration and facilitated their 96 hours transit visas, catered for their meals, transport and/or accommodation where necessary. To avoid similar disruptions, we made a deliberate decision to land and depart from DWC on the 5th August, 2016 and provided ground transport to and from DIA. As of 06th August, 2016 we have resumed normal and timely operations into/out of Dubai International Airport.
For passengers who are still affected, our offices within our network are still providing support by re-booking and/or re-routing without any extra charges for RwandAir operated flights until 07th August, 2016.
