Best time to visit Dubai

Dubai has a desert climate with very little rain. The cooler months from November to March are the most comfortable time to visit, with warm, sunny days that are ideal for the beach, outdoor dining and desert trips.

Summer, from roughly June to September, is extremely hot and humid, so outdoor sightseeing is best kept to early mornings and evenings. It is worth checking the dates of Ramadan, when daily rhythms and opening hours change.

Getting from the airport

Dubai International Airport (DXB) lies in Al Garhoud, close to the older districts of Deira and Bur Dubai. The Dubai Metro Red Line has stations at Terminals 1 and 3, connecting the airport with Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and other areas. Metered taxis and ride-hailing services are available outside all terminals.

Where to stay

Dubai is spread out along the coast, so choose an area that matches your plans and is close to a metro station if you want to use public transport.

  • Downtown Dubai — At the foot of the Burj Khalifa, with shopping, dining and easy metro access.
  • Dubai Marina — A waterfront area of high-rise towers, promenades and nearby beaches.
  • Deira and Bur Dubai — The historic heart of the city, near the creek and souks and close to the airport.
  • Jumeirah — A relaxed coastal district of villas, beaches and seaside walks.

Travel tips

  • Money — Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but carry some cash in dirhams for souks and abra rides.
  • Getting around — The Dubai Metro, trams, buses and taxis are efficient; distances are large, so walking between areas is rarely practical.
  • Etiquette — Dress modestly in public places such as malls, souks and mosques, and be respectful during Ramadan.
  • What to pack — Lightweight clothing, sunscreen and a hat, plus a light layer for air-conditioned interiors.
  • Health and safety — Dubai is generally considered very safe; stay hydrated and avoid the midday sun in the hotter months.
  • Before you go — Check current entry requirements for the United Arab Emirates before you travel.
