Job Purpose

This role requires technical, financial, aviation and strong project management expertise in addition to solid leadership and intercultural skills to build and sustain relationships between airline executives and external project partners and staff. Act as the central point of contact for all portfolio projects. The Manager Corporate Strategic Projects will ensure a consistent approach in the identification and maximization of companywide opportunities. The overall mandate is to extract maximum value out of the airline’s investments.

  1. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and manage all strategic projects.
  • Identify and quantify potential project opportunities, and set up project plans to ensure timely and effective realization of these opportunities.
  • Implement and improve a synergy project management methodology in line with the RwandAir internal PMO governance, including guidance on implementation of methodology (processes, procedures, etc.), integration of project plans, performance metrics and communications to allow for successful, on-time project plan execution.
  • Lead the project tracking and reporting process for all projects, ensuring that each project is accurately monitored including schedule, budget, status updates, resource assignments, risk and issues etc.
  • Regularly track revenue and cost benefits to enable ROI calculation of projects in close cooperation with the Finance department (for financial benefits).
  • Review technology initiatives and evaluate and develop business cases.
  • Advise potential equity partner airlines on internal profit improvement initiatives/projects in close cooperation with the Finance and Commercial departments.
  • Analytical – synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data; designs work flows and procedures.
  • Provide the necessary support for assigned departments to evaluate, prioritize and determine the cost effectiveness of proposed projects initiatives.
  • Ensure collaboration with the assigned departments, to address all points of integration are identified and costs/resources are considered in alignment with all project schedules.
  • Work with departments and outsourced vendor resources to ensure that business requirements are accurately translated into technical specifications, designs and end products that meet business needs. Negotiate, interpret and execute projects in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Partner with the sponsor and stakeholders to create alignment around the project business objectives, measurable benefits, success criteria, scope, deliverables and constraints impacting project delivery.
  • Work with business leaders to translate business strategies into project roadmaps to achieve company strategic goals.
  • Organize and lead meetings to define and document project work breakdown structures, detailed schedules, resource plans, budgets, and people change management plans.
  • Communicate project health to project team, stakeholders, steering committee, and executive leadership.
  • Assist the Director Corporate and Strategic Planning with his/her duties.
  1. About You – Minimum Standard Qualifications & Experience;

Essential

  • Master’s Degree in Project Management is preferable.
  • Advanced Project Management (IATA).
  • Project Management Certification (e.g. PMP, Prince2).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in airline experience, with at least two years direct work experience in a project delivery that directly affects multiple organizations, departments and/or the entire company.
  • Previous strategic project management leadership experience, ideally within an airline.
  • Experience in vendor, people, risk, and change management.
  • Expertise in several key practice areas such as: project management; strategic/business planning and performance measurement; process design and management; corporate governance design.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Project, MS Office and WBS Chart Pro.
  • Strong knowledge of the transport/ aviation industry required.
  • Excellent analytical capacity and coordination skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
