Five-Step Health & Safety Guide

RwandAir has always worked to ensure you feel safe on the ground and in the air.

When we take to the skies once more, you can be certain that the health, safety and security of our passengers and employees will be our highest priority.

As we resume our passenger services, we have prepared the following five-step guide on what to expect at Kigali International Airport and on board RwandAir flights.

Before you travel with us, we recommend that you book your tickets and check-in online, to enjoy a speedier journey through the terminal and minimize contact at both the ticketing office and the airport.

The status of our destinations, schedule, and medical requirements are available here. Please visit your destination airport website for more information before you travel.

We also encourage customers to arrive at the airport four hours prior to departure to allow sufficient time to go through the required health and safety screenings and depart on time.

Passengers boarding flights to Kigali must present proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Alternatively, those who are not fully vaccinated must present a negative Covid-19 test PCR taken no more than 72 hours before departure. Children under five (5) years of age do not require a test. A COVID test is no longer a requirement to depart Rwanda by air. However, COVID testing (at its own cost) is available for all travelers whose final destination requires one at health centers and other designated sites.

Passengers departing from Rwanda can book for a Covid-19 test on https://new.irembo.gov.rw/home/citizen/all_services, or by calling +250 788 633 948; +250 788 422 287 (a test fee will apply).

All Rwandan travelers aged 12 years and above must show proof of full vaccination before departing Rwanda by air.

If you have flu-like symptoms or have come into contact with COVID-19 infected persons within the last 14 days, you are advised not to travel.

Wearing a face mask is mandatory when arriving at the airport and for the duration of your journey with us. Please note that some airports will have other additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirement like gloves so please ensure you visit the destination airport website for more details.

Ensure you have sufficient PPE for the entire journey. Additional PPE can be purchased at the various point at the airport and at the duty-free shops.

Only one other person is permitted to enter Kigali International Airport premises to drop a passenger to help prevent congestion in the departure zones.

All passengers departing from Kigali International Airport will undergo health screening. If you’re unable to check in online before your journey, you can use our handy self-check-in kiosks to help reduce contact upon arrival at the terminal.

New signage will help you observe physical distancing and visors have been placed at all passenger handling desks to protect you and our employees.

Surfaces at all touchpoints are disinfected regularly to ensure optimal hygiene in all customer areas.

Hand sanitizer dispensers are easily accessible throughout your journey at the airport.

Our barcode readers will help speed up boarding and minimize contact with others to provide added safety. Customers will also be boarded in small groups starting from the back of the aircraft and only one hand luggage of 10kgs maximum will be allowed to prevent congestion at the gates and on board our aircraft.

RwandAir customer service agents, wearing protective face masks and gloves, will be on hand to help should you need any assistance.

We have been working hard to prepare our aircraft and our crew for your return.

Aircraft are regularly deep cleaned and disinfected, and all surfaces, including tray tables, video screens, arm rests, safety belts and overhead luggage bins are sprayed and wiped with disinfectant before every flight.

All our aircraft are fitted with high-efficiency particulate absorbing (HEPA) filters that remove over 99% of germs. The cabin air system ensures fresh air flow from the ceiling to the floor to ensure the highest standards of hygiene in the cabin.

Meanwhile, our dedicated crew members including pilots, cabin crew, engineers and customer service agents have undergone new health and safety training ahead of RwandAir’s return to service.

Our friendly crew will wear disposable gowns, gloves and goggles, in addition to face masks, throughout the flight and will always be on hand to assist you.

In order to minimize contact on board and adjust to a new way of flying, you will notice some changes to our onboard service.

For 2-hour flights or less we will not be serving meals, we will only be providing water, soft drinks and snacks. For mid and long-haul flights, we shall be serving pre-packaged meals.

Blankets and earphones that are normally made available for your use will always be sanitized and sealed.

All reading material, except safety cards, will be removed from seat pockets and shall not be distributed by crew.

On arrival at your destination airport, disembarking will be made by zones starting with the front of the aircraft. At Kigali International Airport, the buses will be marked with social distancing signage and throughout the arrival area at the airport, you will be continuously reminded to respect social distancing. At the entrance of the terminal building, a footbath has been installed to disinfect arriving passengers and airport staff.

RwandAir aircraft will be disinfected once again during a turnaround at the destination airport to maintain optimal hygiene levels.

RwandAir looks forward to welcoming you back on-board very soon, to connect you with friends, family, and colleagues across our extensive route network.
