Travelling with Power Banks, E-Cigarettes and Vapes      

 

Portable electronic devices including Power banks, spare batteries, electronic cigarettes and vapes have the potential to overheat, emit fumes and smoke, or self-ignite and catch fire. To ensure a safe journey for everyone, please follow the safety guidelines below when travelling on RwandAir:

  1. Using or charging power banks, irrespective of their capacity or certification, is strictly prohibited onboard all RwandAir flights.
  1. Power banks, spare batteries, and electronic cigarettes are strictly not allowed in checked luggage (e-cigarettes are not permitted on RwandAir flights)
  1. Power banks and spare batteries (Lithium-ion batteries not included in a device) are prohibited in overhead compartment storage and must be carried on your person; in the seat pocket in front of you, or underneath the seat.
  1. Do not charge power banks, or spare batteries while on board. These items must remain switched off and safely stored when not in use.
  1. Do not travel with damaged or recalled lithium batteries, or with devices showing signs of swelling, overheating, or leaking.
  1. If an electronic Device Is Lost or fall in Your Seat do not attempt to move the seat. Inform a cabin crew member immediately.
  1. Use in-seat USB ports or power outlets to charge your portable devices (excluding power banks, e-cigarettes, and vapes). Keep your devices in sight at all times and avoid placing them under pillows, blankets, or seats while charging.
  1. If You Notice Smoke, Heat, or a Burning Smell Immediately alert a member of the cabin crew for assistance. Our crew are trained to manage such situations safely.

Important Note: As of 2019, Electric cigarettes, commonly known as e-cigarettes, or vape pens, are strictly prohibited in Rwanda. In line with national regulations, RwandAir strictly prohibits the carriage of e-cigarettes on board any of its flights, regardless of the departure or destination points. This prohibition applies to all passengers, including those traveling to or from Rwanda or transiting through RwandAir’s hubs.
